3D Diagnostic Imaging in Dentistry
9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Centennial Complex 3113
Heidi Kohltfarber, DDS, MS, PhD
3D Imaging such as CBCT is quickly becoming standard diagnostic imaging in all areas of dentistry. This course is designed to familiarize each participant with the fundamentals of cone beam computed tomography technology, radiation risks, legal responsibilities and interpretation as well as newer 3D imaging modalities and AI technologies that are entering or have entered the dental field. Clinical applications in the areas of implantology, endodontics, surgery, orthodontics, periodontology, and pathology will be discussed with numerous case examples. The course will provide a review of maxillofacial anatomy in 3D as well as review common radiographic pathologies and how to evaluate and review a CBCT.

Alveolar Focused Orthodontics
9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Centennial Complex 3113
Jeffery Miller, DDS
For the first time, orthodontists are able to visualize the alveolar housing anatomy for an individual tooth, through CBCT. The alveolar housing cannot be properly visualized with standard 2D radiographs. When properly slicing CBCT scans, it becomes abundantly clear that the alveolar housing anatomy not only varies between individuals, but can also vary between different segments of the same patient's arch. This presentation will discuss why and how the alveolar housing anatomy should be a consideration when planning treatment for our orthodontic patients.
