School of Dentistry welcomes you to Homecoming

Robert Handysides, DDS

Dean, School of Dentistry

Welcome back to campus! The 2023 Homecoming event is scheduled to take place March 3–5 at the Centennial Complex and the new University Church Family Ministries Hall (formerly known as Fellowship Hall). The Worship Service will take place in the University Church sanctuary and alumni will be able to enjoy the big haystack lunch on the lawn in front of the church.

Two continuing dental education programs will be offered, one on Friday and one on Sunday. Friday afternoon will include School of Dentistry social events: the practice opportunity session and the Alumni Reception. Please plan on joining us for these events—I’m sure you have lots of questions for the School of Dentistry administration on the capital campaign for a new dental clinic.

Practice Opportunity Session

Are you planning on selling your practice? Will you be looking for an associate? We have a great group of students graduating this year. In addition, many alumni took advantage of the disruption COVID-19 caused and are now selling their practices, hiring associates, or moving to a new part of the country for other opportunities.

Join our meet & greet session where practitioners, students and alumni will have the opportunity to interact face-to-face regarding practice opportunities that are available.

Alumni and students will be able to ask questions and both will benefit from getting to know each other!

Registration is complimentary—we’d love to see you at this event.

Orthodontic Camouflage Treatment: Emphasis on the Anteroposterior Plane of Space

Tim Shaughnessy, DDS, MS

There are 3 ways to treat a Class II skeletal discrepancy: growth modification, surgery, or orthodontic camouflage. A growing patient is an obvious requirement for growth modification. Surgery may be ideally required for patients with large skeletal discrepancies. But how do we treat patients who decline surgery or present with inadequate growth for complete correction of moderate skeletal discrepancies? Dr. Shaughnessy will discuss orthodontic camouflage as a viable option. The teeth are moved to a position of best fit, despite the skeletal discrepancy.
